How mainstream media influences your life

Mainstream media has a substantial influence on us; in more ways than you realize. Mainstream media has infiltrated practically every aspect of our lives which has a huge subliminal impact on our minds. That impact more often than not goes unrealized by you (And even me sometimes) and it can strongly influence our decisions and choices; if you let it, of course.

How the subliminal mind works

Your subliminal mind is that part of your mind that perceives things your conscious mind doesn’t. It absorbs information just as your conscious mind does. The difference is that you’re not aware it’s taking place.

There aren’t any substantial studies I’m aware of (Please share with us if you’re aware of any) that indicate the subliminal mind has a long-term effect on your behavior. There are, however, some studies that suggest that in the short-term, there may indeed be some responses to what the subliminal mind sees.

How it can affect your behavior?

Join me for a short walk through your local supermarket. It may not seem relevant, but it is. (Soft elevator music playing in the distance as we walk) La de da, la de da, la de da…and so on. Fifteen minutes pass and we’re on our way home. Whew! I made it out without purchasing a thing; a great feat for a woman who enjoys shopping for anything! Anyways, did you notice all those images hanging from the shelves as we walked up and down each isle? No?

Well, in our hurry to get out of the store and back to my blog, your conscious mind probably flew right by all of them without giving any of them more than an empty glance. Your subliminal mind, however, absorbed those images without you even being aware of it.

Those boldly printed poster-board displays, that brightly colored automatic coupon dispensers you saw perched at eye-level near the hotdog rolls, and even that plain wire stand that marked the entrance to your check out line were all placed there to grab the attention of your subconscious mind.

Why? Simple; to make you think you should buy those hotdog roll, or purchase that latest edition of Women’s Day. The media works the same way.

How the mainstream media influences your subliminal mind

I could share with you many examples of how this happens. But, instead, I’m going to share with you a comment a relative of a friend of mine posted on facebook.

“The gay marriage issue is a case in point. Regardless of where you stand on the issue, everyone should be able to agree that just 10 or 15 years ago the average person cringed at the thought of gay relationships being giving the same respect as heterosexual marriages. We also felt this way about polygamy and other relationships.

I remember clearly the reaction to Vermont passing civil union laws. Even that was too extreme for most Americans…and this was just a few years ago. So what happened to change so many people’s minds?

Even if you think minds should change, it is incredible how it happened. The media decided to start telling a story about gays. Before long nearly every TV show had sympathetic gay characters. The message of “Gay is good, and we should feel bad…” began to take hold in people.

Believe me, should the media decide they like polygamy or the 2nd Amendment abolished or anything else, they will work night and day to make it happen. All the communication institutions…government, schools, social media, TV, magazines, news, newspapers, etc. will start to weave the tale they want told.

Before long you’ll wonder how everything turned around so quickly. They got Obama elected. They can convince sheeple to do just about anything. Your only protection is to be aware…if you know what they are doing you can recognize it. Unfortunately, those of us who see it are in the minority.”

Well said, Jim!

Stay Alert…

Your subliminal mind is a real thing, and the suggestive actions it translates to your conscious mind can have an effect on many areas of your life, and the daily choices you make.

Here’s a link to an article I wrote about how mainstream media influences the way we vote.

About Trudi Dyer

Trudi is one of the most opinionated people she knows. She sees things in a different light than many others, and she's not shy about sharing her views. Her passion sometimes makes her appear brazen, and harsh, but she's really just a simple soul journeying along life's highways and byways trying to make sense of it all. Her motto is: "Let's all agree that we disagree, and live in harmony"
